July 24 Event, Visit The New [Old] ADL Site

Join ADLAA members and guests for a nostalgic visit to Acorn Park on Tuesday, July 24, followed by drinks and hors d’oeuvres, plus an optional sit-down dinner, at the renowned seafood restaurant, Summer Shack.

If you haven’t left Route 2 and retraced the familiar route to work along Acorn Park Drive lately, be prepared for new buildings and spaces. Travel through what’s now called Discovery Park on Acorn Park Drive. Near the corner of what used to be the Building 15 parking lot, and about under the bridge that once crossed over to Building 20A, you will see the Park commemorating ADL. At the site there is a parking area, but it is limited to about 15 cars and may be full. You could probably leave your car along the side of Acorn Park Drive for the short time it will take to see the commemorative display. (Or leave the car at Summer Shack, see below, and take a somewhat longish walk over to the ADL site and back.)

Times on Tuesday, July 24th

Between 5:30 and 6:30 pm – Come enjoy the new Park for several minutes and read the plaques dedicated to ADL. Then wend your way to the Summer Shack.

6:30-7:30 pm – Drinks and hors d’oeuvres at Summer Shack.

7:30-9:30 pm – Dinner at Summer Shack (optional).

Costs

$20/person for hors d’oeuvres; cash bar
$40/person for the optional sit-down dinner

Registration

Parking and Driving

For those who may not be familiar with the restaurant, it is located South of the Alewife MBTA Parking Garage, directly across Cambridgepark Drive. The restaurant free parking lot is accessed from Cambridgepark Drive and is located by the entrance to Summer Shack, beyond the sign for Bertucci’s Parking. If you wish, you may park in the Summer Shack lot before 6:30 and travel to and from the ADL commemorative Park on foot or in a carpool with friends.

Traffic in the Alewife area may be quite congested at the time you plan to arrive for this event. We suggest that you relax, enjoy the ride, be prepared to go with the flow, and hope for the best!

We hope you can join us for this trip down memory lane.
